Flash Samples

I now have all of my client work listed on the homepage, so I am using this space to show and discuss some of my other Flash projects. Sometimes I get an idea stuck in my head, so I build it. Some things aren't even done. Often I only build an app far enough to test the technology or idea, then I put it aside until I need it.

Many of the samples here will not be polished and may have bugs. I'm showing them to help you understand the depth of interactivity and functionality that my Flash skills can offer.

  • Wiping Photo Slideshow
    • image data loaded from XML file
    • a mouse "wipe" effect for progression through the pics (sweep to right, then to left)
    • buttons for additional photo navigation
  • Animated Drawing Application
    • you draw a picture and it animates your brush strokes back for you
    • I built it to test the data storage requirements for mouse movement capture
    • it could easily be upgraded with brush size and other drawing mthods that would be animated back
  • Internet Chess Board
    • online chess game I built to play with my friend before he passed
    • if you want to check it out, you'll need to open two browser windows (one for each player)
    • it does not stop you from moving a piece incorrectly (we didn't need it)
    • it works for live play, or just login now and then to make your move (like penpal chess)
    • also includes a chat log
  • Zoom in from space -
    • animation made from satellite photos
    • basically it's a string of zoomed Google caps that zoom one after another so it looks like you start in space and end up at your destination
    • It's not very useful unless you want to entertain visitors to your store or facility
    • the file size is large as it uses many photos, but smaller dimensions mean exponentially smaller file sizes
  • Snow storm
    • snow effect with adjustments for wind speed and density
    • built to test a random snow effect I later used in a client logo
  • Brick hallway
    • simple animation for mock 3-d hallway effect
    • just what it is, an annoying animation, built to test an idea for mock 3d in Flash
  • Amusement park animation
    • a portion of a park with a few animated rides
    • I built this to show the park a sample (like Sugar Bowl's prototype), though I never did contact them... maybe this year :)
  • Celtic knot
    • just a complicated knot built in Flash, no animation
    • this one was like brain sorbet, once in a while I just need to do something different
    • I liked how it looked so I posted it
